Job summary

Branch Civil is seeking a safety‑minded Heavy Equipment Mechanic II to perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on a range of heavy construction equipment. This journey‑level to mid‑senior role requires independent work and strong troubleshooting skills on diesel, hydraulic, and electrical systems.

You will train and mentor entry‑level mechanics, participate in on‑site road calls, and maintain accurate service records. A CDL and manufacturer certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical program in heavy equipment repair preferred.
• 3–5 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, including 2 years in construction equipment repair.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred or able to obtain.
• Manufacturer or industry certifications (e.g., Caterpillar, John Deere, ASE) highly desirable.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, adjustments, and overhauls.
• Use diagnostic tools and service manuals to identify and resolve issues.
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, electrical systems, and undercarriages on heavy equipment.
• Repair and service bulldozers, excavators, graders, loaders, backhoes, cranes, and other machinery.
• Weld, fabricate, and modify parts as needed to maintain standards.
• Maintain accurate service records and parts usage per procedures.
• Adhere to safety protocols and PPE standards; mentor junior mechanics.
• Assist in road calls and field repairs to minimize downtime.
• Other duties as assigned.
