Job summary

Trueline Talent's client, a heavy civil contractor in Northern Nevada, seeks a Senior Heavy Civil Estimator to own the estimating function in the Carson City/Reno-Sparks area. You will drive bid strategy, price municipal and government projects, and work directly with ownership and project leadership.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years of heavy civil estimating, strong takeoff skills, and experience with public works. Expect autonomy, direct access to leadership, and regional travel.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in heavy civil estimating and public works bidding.
• Ability to build complete heavy civil estimates from plans and specs.
• Experience with sewer, water, underground utilities or related civil estimating.
• Proficient in bid strategy, pricing, and risk assessment.
• Hands-on with quantity takeoffs and material/labor costing.

Responsibilities

• Own the estimating process for heavy civil and public works opportunities from initial bid review through final submission.
• Review civil plans, specifications, addenda, contract requirements, and bid documents.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for underground utilities, sewer, roadway, structural concrete, and related civil scopes.
• Develop complete estimates incorporating labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, production rates, and project-specific conditions.
• Prepare competitive bids for municipal, government, and other public infrastructure projects.
• Identify scope gaps, constructability concerns, project risks, and cost-saving opportunities.
• Attend mandatory pre-bid meetings, job walks, and site visits throughout Northern Nevada and surrounding markets.
• Manage multiple active estimates and bid deadlines simultaneously.
• Collaborate directly with ownership and Project Managers on bid strategy, pricing, and project approach.
• Maintain accurate estimating information and historical cost data.
• Support the transition of awarded projects from estimating into operations.
• Help strengthen and improve estimating processes as the company grows.

Trueline's client, an established heavy civil contractor specializing in public infrastructure throughout Northern Nevada and the surrounding region, is seeking a Senior Heavy Civil Estimator to join its team in the Carson City/Reno-Sparks area. This is a high-impact opportunity for an experienced estimator to take ownership of the estimating function, work directly with ownership and project leadership, and play an important role in the company's continued growth.

What You'll Do as the Senior Heavy Civil Estimator:

Must-Haves as the Senior Heavy Civil Estimator:

• 5+ years of heavy civil estimating experience.
• Significant experience estimating public works or civil infrastructure projects.
• Hands-on sewer, water, underground utility, or similar civil estimating experience.
• Ability to independently build a complete heavy civil estimate from plans and specifications through final bid.
• Strong quantity takeoff skills.
• Thorough understanding of civil construction labor, equipment, materials, production, and sequencing.
• Experience with professional estimating and bidding software.
• Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines without significant oversight.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Comfortable attending pre-bid meetings and site walks.
• Ability to work primarily onsite in the Carson City/Reno-Sparks area.
• Interest in joining a smaller contractor where the estimator has meaningful ownership and visibility.

Nice-to-Haves as the Senior Heavy Civil Estimator:

• Northern Nevada or Northern California heavy civil experience.
• Prevailing wage/public works bidding experience.
• Roadway or street improvement experience.
• Experience with HCSS or similar heavy civil estimating platforms.
• Familiarity with WinBid/BidWin.
• Bluebeam and advanced Excel skills.
• Experience working for a larger heavy civil contractor and interest in moving into a more autonomous environment.
