Job summary

Kyle Conti Construction is seeking a Senior Heavy Civil Estimator to lead complex estimating efforts, shape pricing strategies and contribute to go/no-go decisions. You will partner with Operations, Project Management and leadership to build executable bids and win work.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in heavy civil estimating, strong skills in takeoffs, pricing labor and materials, and familiarity with DOT/public works. Travel to project sites and pre-bid meetings may be required.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of heavy civil construction estimating experience.
• Experience independently leading estimates and competitive bids.
• Strong ability to read and interpret civil drawings, plans, specifications and contract documents.
• Extensive experience with quantity takeoffs and detailed cost estimating.
• Strong knowledge of heavy civil construction means, methods and sequencing.
• Experience pricing self-perform work, subcontractors, materials and trucking.
• Experience with public works/DOT projects preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead estimates for complex heavy civil projects from pursuit through bid submission.
• Review plans, specifications, addenda, contract documents and other bid requirements.
• Develop detailed quantity takeoffs and complete estimates.
• Establish pricing for labor, materials, equipment, trucking and subcontractor work.
• Solicit, analyze, negotiate and level subcontractor and supplier pricing.
• Develop competitive pricing strategies based on project scope and risk.
• Evaluate project risks, constructability and schedule impacts.
• Mentor Estimators and support team members.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as required.

Kyle Conti Construction is seeking an experienced Senior Heavy Civil Estimator to lead complex estimating efforts and play a key role in determining the projects KCC pursues.We’re looking for a senior-level estimator who understands how heavy civil projects are built, how they should be priced, and what it takes to develop a competitive and executable bid.This is more than a senior takeoff position. The Senior Estimator will take ownership of significant pursuits, work closely with Operations, Project Management and company leadership, evaluate risk and constructability, develop pricing strategies, and help position KCC to successfully pursue and execute the right work.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Lead estimates for complex and significant heavy civil projects from initial pursuit through bid submission
• Review and interpret plans, specifications, addenda, contract documents and other bid requirements
• Develop detailed quantity takeoffs and complete estimates
• Establish pricing for labor, materials, equipment, trucking and subcontractor work
• Solicit, analyze, negotiate and level subcontractor and supplier pricing
• Develop competitive pricing strategies based on project scope, market conditions, risk and construction approach
• Evaluate project risks, constructability, means and methods, schedule requirements and potential cost impacts
• Work closely with Operations and Project Management to develop practical and executable estimates
• Identify cost-saving opportunities, value engineering options and alternative construction methods
• Review and validate estimates prepared by other estimators
• Provide guidance, support and mentoring to Estimators and other estimating team members
• Participate in pursuit strategy and project go/no-go discussions
• Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits and meetings with owners, subcontractors and suppliers as required
• Prepare bid schedules, proposals and supporting documentation
• Maintain accurate estimating records and documentation
• Meet critical bid deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and quality
• Support post-bid review, scope clarification and transition of awarded work to Operations
• Help continuously improve estimating processes, tools and best practices

WHAT YOU BRING

Candidates must possess:

• 10+ years of heavy civil construction estimating experience
• Demonstrated experience independently leading estimates and competitive bids
• Strong ability to read and interpret civil drawings, plans, specifications and contract documents
• Extensive experience with quantity takeoffs and detailed cost estimating
• Strong knowledge of heavy civil construction means, methods and sequencing
• Experience pricing self-perform work, subcontractors, materials, equipment and trucking
• Strong understanding of construction costs, productivity and project risk
• Ability to develop and defend estimate assumptions and pricing decisions
• Experience managing multiple complex bids and competing deadlines
• Strong communication, analytical, organizational and decision-making skills
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
• Ability and willingness to travel to project sites, pre-bid meetings and other project-related meetings as required

Preffered experience

• Highway, roadway, bridge, utility, sitework, paving, marine, rail/transit or environmental construction experience
• Significant public works and DOT project experience
• Experience in NJ, NY or PA construction markets
• Experience with HCSS HeavyBid, AGTEK, Bluebeam, B2W, Procore or similar software
• Strong understanding of prevailing wage and public bidding requirements
• Experience with value engineering and alternative construction methods
• Experience reviewing or mentoring the work of other estimators
• Experience transitioning awarded estimates to Operations and Project Management
