Job summary

CK Contractors & Development is seeking a Senior Heavy Civil Estimator for an on-site role in Kings Mountain, NC. You will prepare detailed estimates for earthwork, utilities, concrete, and paving, reviewing plans and quotes to deliver competitive bids.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field supervisors to ensure accurate pricing, constructability, and risk assessment while maintaining historical cost data and supporting contract negotiations.

Qualifications

• Experience estimating heavy civil/site development projects (earthwork, utilities, concrete, paving).
• Proficiency with estimating software and tools (digital take-off, Excel, CM platforms).
• Ability to read/interpret civil plans, specs, and geotechnical reports.
• Understanding of construction means/methods, production rates, and resource allocation for heavy civil work.
• Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
• Effective communication and collaboration with internal teams, subs, and suppliers.
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Senior estimating or project management background is beneficial.
• Education in Construction Management or Civil Engineering preferred.

Role Description The Senior Heavy Civil Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Kings Mountain, NC. This position is responsible for preparing detailed estimates for heavy civil and site development projects, including earthwork, utilities, concrete, and paving. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing plans and specifications, performing quantity take-offs, analyzing subcontractor and supplier quotes, and developing comprehensive bid proposals. The estimator collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, and field supervisors to ensure accurate pricing, constructability, and risk assessment. The role also involves maintaining historical cost data, participating in bid reviews, and supporting contract negotiations to help secure profitable work.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience estimating heavy civil/site development projects, including earthwork, underground utilities, concrete, and paving.
• Proficiency with estimating software and tools (e.g., digital take-off systems, Excel, construction management platforms).
• Strong skills in reading and interpreting civil plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports.
• Solid understanding of construction means and methods, production rates, and resource allocation for heavy civil work.
• Excellent analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
• Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines, organize workloads, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Relevant experience in the construction industry; prior senior estimating or project management background is highly beneficial.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent field experience.
