Job summary

Curtis Contracting, Inc. seeks a Heavy Civil Project Manager to oversee administrative, technical, and operational aspects of major highway and civil construction projects from inception to closeout.

You will act as the primary contact, drive schedules, budgets, quality and safety goals, and maintain strong stakeholder relationships. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in engineering/construction management, 10 years of progressive construction experience, and proven leadership

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in engineering, construction management, or related field.
• 10 years of progressive construction experience, preferably with a general contractor handling large-scale heavy highway and civil projects.
• Proven ability to manage projects from pre-construction to final closeout.
• Strong negotiation skills and relationships with owners, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Leadership experience with at least 5 years supervisory responsibility.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in project management software and scheduling tools (Primavera P6, MS Project) and financial reporting systems.
• Knowledge of heavy civil/highway construction methods (grading, drainage, structures, paving) and familiarity with VDOT regulations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all project phases to ensure timely completion within budget and quality standards.
• Develop and manage project schedules, including critical path tracking and resource allocation.
• Lead project teams including field supervision, engineers, and subcontractors.
• Identify and mitigate risks and resolve issues to maintain continuity.
• Enforce safety, quality, and environmental compliance policies.
• Administer contract requirements and ensure compliance by all parties.
• Prepare, negotiate, and process change orders, RFIs, and submittals.
• Oversee budgets, cost tracking, and financial forecasting for profitability.
• Secure permits and ensure subcontractor insurance coverage and compliance.
• Manage procurement to align materials and services with timelines.
• Mentor and develop project team members and provide coaching.
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback.
• Serve as liaison between clients, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
• Build relationships with project owners, engineering firms, vendors, and local agencies.
• Organize and facilitate project meetings and ensure clear communication.
• Prepare monthly status reports and inform leadership of progress and challenges.
• Oversee final stages of project completion and ensure contract compliance.
