Job Summary
Responsible for installation and maintenance of heating and air conditioning systems within the Regional Detention facility, including analyzing system capacity, operational efficiency, and developing repair/replacement schedules.
Essential Job Functions
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs malfunctions in heating, air conditioning, refrigeration systems, kitchen coolers and freezers, ice machines, and control boxes using diagnostic devices.
- Replaces or repairs compressors, motors, filters, and other defective components.
- Performs preventive maintenance on heating and cooling systems, including lubricating bearings, changing belts, cleaning coils, and adding refrigerant.
- Oversees testing of HVAC units within the facility.
- Analyzes system functioning and condition; develops maintenance and replacement schedules.
- Reviews blueprints and specifications; makes recommendations on system types, capacity, and installation processes.
- Inspects contractor work for compliance with specifications.
- Oversees repair and maintenance of hot water boiler systems.
- Maintains inventory of supplies and materials; completes requisitions.
- Assists with equipment specifications and scope of work for system replacements.
- Prepares schematics and drawings using AutoCAD or similar software.
- Maintains records of repairs and replacements.
- Responds to equipment malfunctions 24/7 as needed.

Working Conditions
Work is performed within the facility involving electrical parts and equipment. Must remain on call during assigned periods. Occasional contact with inmates.
Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Knowledge of laws, codes, and regulations related to HVAC installation and maintenance.
- Knowledge of tools, methods, materials, and practices in HVAC trade.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Understanding of electrical principles and practices.
- Proficiency with computer-aided drafting software.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and specifications.
- Ability to prepare reports and recommendations.
- Ability to analyze equipment capacity and lifespan.
- Ability to determine necessary work materials.
- Ability to remain on-call when needed.
- Ability to review contractor work for compliance.
- Ability to troubleshoot HVAC systems.
- Excellent record-keeping skills.
- Proficiency with hand and power tools, electrical test meters, gauges, and equipment.
- Computer skills.

Education and Experience
Completion of vocational-technical training in HVAC systems, extensive experience in commercial HVAC installation and maintenance, or an equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required skills and knowledge.
