Job summary

Summit Midstream Corporation is seeking a Senior Health & Safety Specialist to support development and implementation of safety programs across CO-based assets. This person will act as a subject matter expert, drive H&S data analysis, and coordinate audits and drills while maintaining field operations safety.

Responsibilities include incident investigations, JHA support, program reviews, and mentoring junior staff as part of a comprehensive safety culture.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Occupational Safety and Health, or equivalent
• 8 years oil and gas operations with involvement in H&S programs
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations
• PSM/RMP familiarity
• Strong communication and analytical skills

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement safety programs and procedures per regulations and company policies
• Serve as safety SME for assigned area of responsibility
• Analyze, summarize, and report H&S data
• Prepare, implement, and review H&S manuals, programs, procedures, and standards
• Prepare, schedule, and conduct emergency response drills and exercises
• Provide updates and recommendations to management on program implementation
• Maintain a daily field presence supporting Operations and ensuring safe work environments

Headquartered in Houston, Texas, Summit Midstream Corporation (NYSE: SMC) is a value-driven corporation focused on developing, owning and operating midstream energy infrastructure assets that are strategically located in unconventional resource basins, primarily shale formations, in the continental United States.

We currently operate natural gas, crude oil and produced water gathering systems in four unconventional resource basins:

• the Williston Basin in North Dakota, which includes the Bakken and Three Forks shale formations;
• the Denver-Julesburg Basin, which includes the Niobrara and Codell shale formations in Colorado and Wyoming;
• the Fort Worth Basin in Texas, which includes the Barnett Shale formation; and
• the Piceance Basin in Colorado, which includes the liquids-rich Mesaverde formation as well as the emerging Mancos and Niobrara Shale formations.

Our systems and the basins they serve are as follows:

• the Polar & Divide system, which serves the Williston Basin;
• the DFW Midstream system, which serves the Fort Worth Basin;
• the Grand River system, which serves the Piceance Basin; and
• the Niobrara G&P system, which serves the DJ Basin.

SMC has an equity investment in and operates Double E Pipeline, LLC, which is natural gas transmission infrastructure that provides transportation service from multiple receipt points in the Delaware Basin to various delivery points in and around the Waha Hub in Texas.

We generate a substantial majority of our revenue under primarily long-term and fee-based gathering agreements with our customers.

The majority of our gathering agreements are underpinned by areas of mutual interest (AMIs) and minimum volume commitments (MVCs).

Our AMIs provide that any production drilled by our customers within the AMIs will be shipped on our gathering systems. The MVCs are designed to ensure that we will generate a minimum amount of gathering revenue over the life of each respective gathering agreement. The fee-based nature of the majority of the gathering agreements enhances the stability of our cash flows and limits our direct commodity price exposure.

Since our formation in 2009, our management team has established a track record of executing this strategy through the acquisition and subsequent development of DFW Midstream, Grand River, Polar & Divide, Niobrara G&P, and Double E Pipeline.

Summary

The Senior Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of safety, and health programs that comply with federal, state, and local regulations as well as Company requirements.

Principle Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist with the development and implementation of safety programs and procedures to comply with federal, state, and local regulations and Company policies
• Serve as a Safety resource and subject matter expert to assigned geographical area of responsibility
• Analyze, summarize, and report all necessary H&S data
• Prepare, implement, and review H&S manuals, programs, procedures, and standards
• Prepare, schedule, and conduct emergency response drills and exercises
• Provide updates and recommendations to management on program and procedure implementation
• Maintain a daily field presence by supporting Operations, conducting inspections and training, and verifying a safe work environment in addition to other assigned tasks
• Effectively communicate with all levels of employees and contractors, management, and regulatory agencies
• Coordinate internal audits and agency inspections
• Implement operational safety or compliance measures as required by new regulations or procedures
• Provide, or assist with, training for Operations personnel
• Lead, or assist with, formal and informal incident investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions
• Develop and implement effective corrective actions to resolve issues and eliminate hazards
• Support the development and implementation of JHAs (Job Hazard Analyses) for both routine and non-routine Operations & Maintenance tasks
• Develop and/or implement departmental goals and initiatives
• Manage, mentor, and develop less experienced Safety Specialists
• Conduct interactive monthly safety meetings

Education & Experience

• BS degree in Occupational Safety and Health, or equivalent degree, preferred

or 8 years of oil and gas operations experience with involvement in H&S programs

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

• Must demonstrate a working knowledge of OSHA regulations; gas plant and/or DOT experience is a plus
• Familiarity with PSM and RMP regulations is a plus
• Ability to interact effectively and professionally with field and office employees, governmental agencies, third party operators, and contractors
• A high level of technical knowledge is required, including the ability to be innovative and creative while utilizing technical resources to address compliance issues
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to company and insurers
• Successful completion and passing of company drug screen, background check and respirator fit test
• Must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills
• Must have high level of initiative, and ability to work independently with minimal oversight
• Must have ability to effectively organize, prioritize, and plan daily work activities
• Must have ability and willingness to work with a team, take directions from supervisor(s), follow work rules, and adhere to established work schedules
• Possess organization and planning skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
• Must have intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

Physical Demands And Working Conditions

• Available to travel within the Niobrara-DJ Basin (CO) assets on a regular basis, up to 50%, based on business needs
• Must be able to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push and pull or otherwise move objects
• Able to bend and stoop for filing; ability to sit for prolonged periods of time
• Able to view compute terminal for long periods of time; Manual dexterity for operating computer and office equipment;
• Able to walk for prolonged periods of time, climb stairs and work in remote locations with exposure to varying weather conditions
