Job summary

Mathematica is seeking a Senior Researcher to lead quantitative research, evaluation, and data analytics projects focused on health policy and federal programs.

The role emphasizes working with CMS data, guiding multidisciplinary teams, and translating findings into actionable policy insights for clients and decision-makers.

Ideal candidates have a Ph.D. or equivalent, 10+ years of relevant experience, and strong communication skills to interact with policymakers and practitioners.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or master's degree in a relevant field; combination with experience may be substituted.
• At least 10 years in research, evaluation, data analytics, health policy, or related area.
• Strong quantitative research skills and rigorous evaluation design.
• Experience with large, complex administrative data and data quality issues.
• Experience integrating, linking, or aggregating multiple data sources for analysis.
• CMS programs/data experience; CMMI familiarity preferred.
• Experience applying ML/AI to improve research efficiency and insights.
• Ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams and projects.
• Excellent written and oral communication for policymakers and practitioners.
• Strong stakeholder and client management abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead and advise on complex quantitative research and evaluation activities for federal and other clients.
• Lead multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality work on time and budget.
• Design and implement rigorous research approaches for health policy questions.
• Work with CMS data to assess programs, outcomes, and implementation.
• Translate complex findings into clear policy and practice insights.
• Develop client deliverables including reports, memos, dashboards, and visuals.
• Present findings to policy, practitioner, and research audiences.
• Mentor staff and provide technical guidance to project teams.
• Contribute to proposals and business development activities.
