SLAC is seeking Health Physics Technician candidates to support the Environment, Safety and Health Division and Radiation Protection Department. The role spans radiological control, RWPs, training, and incident response across high‑liability tasks.

Positions progress from HPT I to HPT III with rigorous DOE training, exams, and a six‑month probation for higher levels. The work emphasizes ALARA, surveys, data analysis, and safety leadership on the site.

Qualifikationen

• Five years of practical work experience across multiple radiological assignments.
• Must pass site-specific and practical examinations.
• Completion of SLAC HPT III core requirements and related training.

Aufgaben

• Transmit radiological work controls and policies to the line and inspect for conformance.
• Provide radiological worker practical training.
• Generate and sign Radiological Work Permits (RWPs).
• Assist in scheduling radiological work during PAMM/POMM and outages.
• Cover high‑liability radiological control tasks.
• Evaluate RWPs and document lessons learned and exposure data.
• Review and sign data from scintillation and gamma spectroscopy analyses.
• Perform waste characterization using spectral analysis tools.
• Operate field and fixed radiation detection equipment and conduct specialty measurements.
• Coordinate with emergency response personnel in radiation incidents.
• Ensure DOT regulations for transport of radioactive materials are followed.
• Decontaminate personnel as needed.
• Enforce safety rules and stop unsafe work when required.
• Adhere to all HPT duties as assigned.
