The City of Birmingham is seeking a well-qualified Senior Planner to join the Hazard Mitigation Division. The role focuses on reviewing development documents for compliance and communicating activities to committees, commissions, and citizens.

Work is under supervision and reviewed for adherence to policies. Offering competitive pay and comprehensive benefits, the position reports to a supervisor and requires engaging presentations to the public and stakeholders.

Formación

• Experience writing, developing, or preparing hazard mitigation plans and long-range planning elements.
• Experience collecting and analyzing data for planning studies (demographic, land-use, market, census).
• Experience developing and interpreting planning regulations including zoning, subdivision, and floodplain.

Responsabilidades

• Reviews drawings, maps, surveys, and applications to ensure compliance with codes and ordinances.
• Acts as liaison to committees, commissions, and citizens to communicate activities and provide project information.
• Participates in strategic, current, and long-range planning and ordinance revisions to ensure compliance.
• Manages federal/state hazard mitigation and disaster recovery programs and related grants.
• Interprets codes and ordinances to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
• Conducts neighborhood or public involvement meetings to obtain feedback and inform the community.
