Job summary

Phase3D is seeking a Hardware Systems Engineer to take ownership of hardware products from concept through validated production release in Chicago, IL. This hands-on role spans electrical, mechanical, firmware, and manufacturing disciplines to deliver reliable industrial products with full technical ownership.

You will lead design, debugging, and integration of sensor hardware, boards, enclosures, and systems, while coordinating with suppliers and factories to ensure readiness and quality across

Qualifications

• Hands-on hardware experience across electrical, mechanical, mechatronics, or embedded disciplines is required or strongly valued.
• Demonstrated electrical troubleshooting skills, including solving ground loop and signal integrity problems in deployed systems.
• Proficiency in PCB design, schematic capture, prototype bring-up, and debugging with Altium, KiCad, OrCAD or equivalent tools.
• SolidWorks or comparable CAD software for enclosure design and electro-mechanical integration.
• Experience across the product lifecycle from prototype through validation and production release.
• Ability to solve ambiguous technical problems independently with limited direction.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop hardware, including PCBs, enclosures, cabling, circuits, fixtures, and system integrations.
• Lead electrical systems engineering, addressing grounding, shielding, noise, and signal integrity issues.
• Collaborate across electrical, mechanical, firmware domains and support hardware-software integration.
• Drive design transfer to production, including validation builds, readiness reviews, and manufacturability.
• Conduct root-cause analysis for field, production, and development issues.
• Manage suppliers and contract manufacturers, sourcing components, and mitigating supply chain risks.
• Support regulatory compliance activities (CE, EMC, FCC, UL) with partners.
