Job summary

Mesa Quantum in Boulder, CO is seeking a Principal Hardware Engineer to own the board-level control electronics at the core of our chip-scale atomic clock. This is a hands-on role spanning schematic through production for analog front end, microwave synthesis, laser drive, and the connecting boards.

You will personally design, bring up, and validate circuits, mentor engineers, and set hardware design standards as we scale.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of board-level analog and RF hardware design.
• Multilayer boards with sensitive analog, RF, and digital circuits.
• Proficiency in PCB design tools (Altium, Cadence, KiCad) and layout best practices.
• Deep expertise in low-noise analog signal conditioning and noise budgeting.
• RF design through GHz with phase noise, PLLs, and VCOs.
• Strong SPICE and circuit analysis skills; bench probing and validation.

Responsibilities

• Design and lay out multi-layer precision analog and RF boards end-to-end.
• Own the analog front end, microwave synthesis, laser drive electronics.
• Develop DM and reference distributions with tight tolerances.
• Coordinate with firmware and physics teams; define interfaces.
• Drive manufacturability and testability; participate in design reviews.
• Mentor junior engineers; set hardware design standards.
