Hybrid. This role is categorized as hybrid. The successful candidate is expected to report to Warren or Milford, Michigan at least three times per week.

Our Central Compute hardware team develops cutting-edge technologies such as premium In-Vehicle Infotainment display and audio features, Mechatronics control, radio and Bluetooth connectivity, and Super Cruise Hands-Free Automated Driving to enhance vehicle safety, performance, and autonomy.

As we in-source hardware design, we are building a hardware engineering team responsible for the end-to-end design and development of our Central Compute hardware.

In this role, the Senior Hardware Design Engineer – Central Compute will oversee the technical design and development of GM’s next-generation Central Compute hardware platform. The ideal candidate will have a background in automotive ECU architecture, design, analysis, and proven experience in launching Compute hardware into production.

What You'll Do

• Design Compute electrical hardware, including SoC/key component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout, bring-up, debugging, signal and power integrity, environmental and EMC testing, manufacturing support, and production launch.
• Develop a Compute hardware platform from concept to launch, adhering to cost, timing, quality, and safety standards.
• Collaborate with software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams for seamless electrical design integration.
• Coordinate with contract manufacturers to ensure successful prototyping and mass production, maintaining quality, cost, and schedule.
• Design electrical schematics and PCB layouts using Mentor Graphics.
• Support new IC designs and developments for ADAS Compute architectures.
• Perform hardware analysis such as worst-case, signal integrity, and power integrity assessments.
• Lead hardware bring-up, including power supplies, SoCs, MCUs, SerDes interfaces, and network devices.
• Implement design for manufacturing (DFM), assembly (DFA), and testing (DFT).
• Validate and test hardware components and systems to meet reliability and performance standards.
• Establish test plans and protocols to verify designs against requirements.
• Troubleshoot hardware issues, perform root cause analysis, and develop corrective solutions.
• Assist manufacturing partners with troubleshooting and resolving production issues.
• Conduct design reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Lead or support DFMEA/PFMEA processes, incorporating lessons learned and best practices.
• Provide guidance to Design Release Engineers (DREs).
