Meritas Advisory Group, LLC is seeking a Senior Hardware Design Engineer in Huntsville, AL. You will own complex embedded hardware programs, designing for rugged environments with Intel/ARM processors, FPGAs, and high-speed interfaces. Expect independent work, cross-functional collaboration, and end-to-end lifecycle involvement.

The role emphasizes design authority, system-level debugging, and production-ready hardware delivery in aerospace/defense contexts.

Formación

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or closely related field.
• 7+ years in electrical engineering, embedded hardware design, or electronic product development.
• Strong PC architecture, processor-based embedded systems, and hardware interconnects.
• PCB design capability: schematic capture, component selection, routing.
• High-speed PCB design considerations: differential signaling, crosstalk, losses.
• Hardware bring-up, troubleshooting, root-cause debug, and validation.
• Develop test/verification plans and validate against requirements.
• Self-starting, independent problem-solving; contribute across full lifecycle.

Your Role with the Company

As a Senior Hardware Design Engineer, you will serve as a senior technical contributor and design authority for complex embedded hardware programs. You will design, develop, test, debug, and support advanced electronic systems while working with a high degree of independence. You will design digital hardware incorporating Intel and ARM-based processors, DDR memory, FPGAs, MPSoCs, and RFSoCs, along with high-speed interfaces such as DDR4/DDR5, PCIe, and multi-Gigabit Ethernet.

Background Profile

Must Have

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
• 7+ years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, embedded hardware design, or electronic product development, consistent with the original role profile.
• Strong understanding of PC architecture, processor-based embedded systems, and hardware interconnects.
• Demonstrated PCB design capability, including schematic capture, component selection, and hands-on PCB placement and routing.
• Strong understanding of high-speed PCB design considerations, including differential signaling and practical effects such as transmission-line loss and crosstalk.
• Hands-on experience with hardware bring-up, troubleshooting, root-cause debug, and product verification/validation.
• Ability to develop test and verification plans and validate hardware against product requirements.
• Self-starting approach to problem-solving and ability to work independently through complex technical issues.
• Willingness and ability to contribute across the complete product development lifecycle, from requirements and concept through design, bring-up/debug, verification/validation, production release, and sustainment.

Desired

• Experience with Mentor Expedition Dx or comparable schematic/layout tools
• Familiarity with ARM processors is good. In-depth knowledge of support processors like network processors, GPUs, FPGAs, etc. is a value-add for this position.
• Experience with signal integrity analysis
• Experience with industry-leading CAD tools like Mentor Graphics, Cadence, or Altium is preferred.
• Experience with design for manufacturability and production release
• Experience designing ruggedized electronics for defense, aerospace, industrial, or other high-reliability applications
• Familiarity with Linux and Windows is important, Knowledge of C-code or Python code development important.
• Experience with low-level software development using C/C++
• Experience with system backplanes and I/O architectures
• Experience supporting products through their complete lifecycle, including engineering changes and post-release troubleshooting
• Demonstrated ability and willingness to use AI tools to improve engineering productivity, decision-making, work quality, and cost efficiency, while critically evaluating AI-generated outputs
