Job summary

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) seeks a senior scientist to lead the Applied Quantum Technologies group within the Quantum Information Science Section. You will guide a world-class research program and direct staff growth, external funding, and strategic partnerships in quantum computing, sensing, and communications.

The role requires a PhD with extensive experience, proven leadership, and a capability to build collaborations across ORNL and with external partners to advance quantum

Qualifications

• PhD required with at least 6 years of relevant experience, or MS with at least 12 years.
• Experience leading R&D teams in physics-related research.
• Demonstrated ability to oversee and mentor a diverse research staff.

Responsibilities

• Oversee high quality research in applied quantum technologies.
• Collaborate across divisions to align vision and execution for quantum sensing and computing networks.
• Develop new research directions and maintain program funding through interactions with offices and sponsors.
• Mentor early career staff, postdocs, and students.
• Represent group work to review committees and external bodies.
• Manage staff, recruitment, development, and motivation of group members.
• Publish peer-reviewed papers, technical reports, and proposals.
