Job summary

Senior Groundskeeper

Purpose Statement

The role of Senior Groundskeeper is to maintain attractive grounds areas and athletic fields, ensure availability of required equipment, protect against erosion, and maintain grounds for assemblies, recreational activities, and athletic events. All tasks are completed safely, properly, and timely.

Essential Functions

• Clean landscaped areas and related items (e.g., storm drains, walkways) to prevent flooding and eliminate trash or hazards.
• Coordinate with the Unit Manager and other site administrators to adjust irrigation and spraying schedules and prepare fields.
• Maintain landscaping and athletic fields by mowing, trimming lawns, raking leaves, picking up trash, pruning, and trimming trees or hedges to preserve healthy and safe grounds.
• Maintain playground equipment to ensure it is available and in safe operating condition.
• Operate heavy equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers, and backhoes to maintain district grounds.
• Plant landscaping materials—shrubbery, flowers, lawns, trees, and hedges—to keep areas attractive and protect against erosion.
• Prepare grounds and athletic fields, including fertilizing soil and tending flower beds, to provide adequate, attractive, and safe environments for assemblies, recreational activities, and athletic events.
• Procure materials, supplies, and equipment to ensure timely completion of assignments.
• Repair mechanical equipment like weed eaters and large tractors to maintain safe operation.
• Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
• Transport items such as sand, dirt, furniture, equipment, supplies, and fertilizer between school sites as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support efficient and effective work unit functioning.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

• Operate grounds maintenance equipment: tractors, weed whips, mowers, and hand and power tools, while adhering to safety practices.
• Apply basic math calculations using fractions, percentages, and ratios, read technical information, compose varied documents, facilitate group discussions, and solve practical problems.
• Prepare and maintain plants, shrubs, lawns, and safety procedures.
• Schedule activities, meetings, and events; collate data; consider multiple factors when using equipment.
• Show flexibility to collaborate with diverse individuals and groups, manage data using defined processes, and operate equipment with standardized methods.
• Use problem‑solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans under moderate data and equipment contexts.
• Adhere to safety practices, meet deadlines and schedules, work under time constraints, and communicate with diverse groups.

Experience

Job‑related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.

Education
