Job summary

Block Information Security is seeking a seasoned engineer to scale governance across Block's systems. You will build data pipelines, policy-as-code, and auditable controls while partnering with Security Governance, Compliance, and Engineering teams.

The role emphasizes automating governance using agentic AI workflows, integrating signals from many systems, and ensuring security and regulatory compliance at scale.

Qualifications

• 7+ years building production software in backend, platform, data, or security engineering.
• Ownership of a production system, including on-call and SLOs.
• Proficiency in at least one of Python, Kotlin, Java, or Go, with ability to read unfamiliar code.
• Hands-on experience with LLMs and agent-based features.
• Experience with REST APIs, webhooks, authentication, and event-driven patterns.
• Experience pulling and joining data from multiple sources and handling edge cases.
• Ability to define technical direction across teams and balance risk-based prioritization.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate pipelines and integrations that aggregate signals from diverse sources.
• Translate standards into policy-as-code and maintain auditable checks.
• Design agentic AI workflows for evidence analysis and decision layers.
• Build evals, benchmarks, and calibration harnesses for governance honesty.
• Automate evidence collection and continuous control monitoring for audit readiness.
• Define approaches for ambiguous cross-team problems in an early-stage program.
• Partner with Security Governance, Compliance, and Engineering to automate manual processes.
• Help govern Block's AI systems and assess agent safety and autonomy.
• Contribute to technical design discussions on platform security and reliability.
