Job summary

The New York Times is seeking an experienced visual journalist to report, write, design and code graphics and multimedia stories. You will develop data-driven visuals, interactive graphics and statical representations, collaborating across the newsroom to produce high-impact journalism.

You will conceptualize new reporting lines, analyze data for stories, and ensure accuracy and clarity across formats. This in-office role is based in Washington, DC or New York with four days in the office weekly

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience in visual journalism or graphics
• Expertise in creating interactive graphics or websites using HTML, CSS and JavaScript
• Experience with interface design and information graphic design
• Proven track record producing visual journalism or related visual media
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator, or equivalent like Figma

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, sketch and execute new visual approaches to news coverage
• Report and analyze data to cover stories with a visual emphasis
• Design and build interactive and static visualizations
• Collaborate with Graphics and wider newsroom to create impactful journalism
• Maintain journalistic independence and strong mission alignment
• Report to a deputy in Graphics
