Job summary
The New York Times is seeking an experienced and agile news photo editor for the Digital News Desk in New York. You will guide visual coverage for breaking news, curate home screen presentations, and oversee global newsletter visuals.
You’ll work with editors on Express, Newsletters, and Shows teams, collaborating with photo, design, graphics and video staff. Early mornings, nights or weekends may be required.
Qualifications
- 5+ years in a newsroom photo editing role.
- Experience assigning and directing photojournalists in a variety of situations.
- Exceptional technical skills, including web tools, CMS, Photoshop, PhotoMechanic, video editing, FTP, and social platforms.
- Knowledge of responsive design and best practices for mobile stories.
Responsibilities
- Produce and build promotional visual assets for stories and enterprise content across platforms including homescreen, live coverage, Listen tab and newsletters.
- Learn, publish innovative visual storytelling formats.
- Own critical editorial decision making in a fast-paced environment for timely visual journalism.
- Coordinate with editors on vetting, copyright and ethics; maintain high photography and video assignment levels.
- Pitch, develop, edit and pace strong visual stories with multimedia elements.
- Collaborate with reporters to shape visual story opportunities.
