Roughly translated, “Hui O Hana Pono,” means the “House of Good Work.” We are headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaii with offices in Wayne, PA and Lanham, MD. The Hana Group has provided support services and products to the Department of Defense (DOD), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and other government agencies across the nation for over 18 years. We are a growing organization with core values based firmly on our Native Hawaiian roots embodying integrity, quality, commitment to excellence, sense of community, and family values.

To continue providing innovative solutions and services to the Department of Defense (DOD) and other government agencies, we are seeking an experienced Senior Graphic Designer to join our team, working on high-impact projects that support national security and defense initiatives.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Graphic Designer who will guide, inspire and move both teams and clients using the craft of visual communication. Your creative leadership will be required to create compelling stories to add context and texture to meaningful business strategy that starts with people.

Your role as a Senior Graphic Designer is critically important as you will be making the biggest impact on solving complex challenges by bringing ideas to life visually. Our highly talented and skilled team will count on you to consult, art direct, and deliver exceptionally good design.

Must have experience working on DOD contracts and possess an active DOD security clearance at or above the Secret level. As a Senior Graphic Designer, you will be responsible for design that captures developing solutions that meet the needs of our DOD clients. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including UX strategy, UI design, software development, and product management alongside stakeholders to create intuitive and effective visual representations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and consult on a variety of design projects, including brand identities, workbooks, publications, prototypes, exhibition graphics, user interfaces, and presentations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including military and defense stakeholders, to solve complex challenges supporting national security
  • Oversee design processes from research and brainstorming to strategy, concept development, and prototyping
  • Mentor junior designers, ensuring design excellence and fostering growth in support of DoD initiatives
  • Apply co-creation methods to develop solutions with customers and end users
  • Implement strong principles of visual design, information layout, and presentation across projects
  • Create and develop visual and written communications for change management, including mockups, prototypes, and executive presentations
  • Design and maintain wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI components (icons, graphics, typography) for enhanced user experience
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and development teams to ensure design integrity, feasibility, and seamless implementation
  • Create and maintain design systems, style guides, and design documentation
  • Stay updated on industry trends and tools, ensuring best practices are applied to all design work
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing priorities and meeting deadlines.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Design Expertise: Extensive experience in communication design, including Brand Identity, Editorial Design, Infographics, mission-driven storytelling, defense-related data visualization, and Exhibition Design
  • Experience: 5+ years in the creative industry with proven experience in DOD contracts and multidisciplinary projects
  • Career Motivation: Eager to push the boundaries of your craft in a challenging environment that fosters learning and impactful work in national defense
  • Collaboration: Thrive in team environments that value feedback, idea sharing, and refining designs to support mission objectives
  • Clearance: Active DOD security clearance (Secret level or higher)
  • Location: Availability to be on-site in Mechanicsburg, PA and Washington, DC
  • Software Proficiency: Expertise in Adobe Suite, Figma, SketchUp, with proficiency in design tools like Sketch, InVision, and others
  • Language: English proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Design Expertise: While primarily focused on visual design, any experience or understanding of UX/UI principles and human-centered design will be an asset in supporting user-focused design projects
  • Security clearance at or above Secret level (preferred but not required)
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary and benefits package
