Job summary

ByteDance in San Jose seeks a senior systems software engineer to build and optimize low-level software for modern GPU accelerators. You will work across kernel drivers, runtime components, firmware interfaces, and performance-critical paths to make GPUs usable, observable, and reliable in production.

You will own features end to end, collaborate across the stack, and be accountable for code quality, validation, and production outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/CE/EE or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of professional programming in C/C++ for low-level or performance-critical software.
• Solid understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, memory hierarchies, DMA, interrupts, and I/O.
• Hands-on experience with GPU or accelerator software in at least one layer (kernel drivers, runtimes, firmware, libraries, or performance tooling).
• Ability to diagnose failures using traces, logs, profilers, debuggers, and controlled experiments.
• Experience delivering production-quality features across hardware and software teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain production GPU system software (kernel-driver, runtime, firmware-interface, host-management, tracing and profiling tools).
• Own accelerator features from proof of concept through validation, bring-up, and deployment.
• Debug complex GPU-related failures across GPUs, CPUs, memory, PCIe, IOMMU, firmware, OS, and runtimes.
