Job summary

Eagle County Government is seeking a Senior Accountant to act as a financial subject matter expert, guiding audit preparations, and ensuring GAAP and GASB compliance across departments. The role shapes financial policy, supports debt management, and participates in annual budget development.

The position schedules Monday through Friday, 8am–5pm, with a competitive salary range and strong benefits. Experience in governmental accounting and supervisory roles is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience
• 7+ years in accounting/financial reporting
• Experience with annual financial reports or audits
• Knowledge of GAAP and GASB standards
• Governmental accounting experience a plus
• Supervisory experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead external audit preparations and liaise with auditors; ensure compliance with regulations
• Direct month-end and year-end close; provide budgetary analysis and GAAP adherence
• Serve as in-house expert on complex accounting topics and provide solutions
• Oversee debt compliance, disclosure agreements, and bond rating interactions
• Track and implement GASB pronouncements and update procedures
• Support annual budget development, forecasting, and policy improvements
• Provide guidance to finance staff and uphold safety and Eagle County values
