Job description

BlueHalo is a leading provider of innovative technologies and solutions across the aerospace and defense sectors. Our MAST Missile Program is a highly regarded mission, supporting military customers for over 12 years. We are looking for a talented GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control) Engineer to join our dynamic team and contribute to the development and execution of this critical program.

Position Overview:
As a GNC Engineer on the MAST Missile Program, you will be responsible for supporting the development, integration, and testing of software and systems used in guidance, navigation, and control. The role involves working in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment to solve complex engineering problems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in GNC algorithm development, software integration, and testing, along with hands-on experience in missile systems.

You will also need to be comfortable with supporting missile tests at remote sites, engaging in various testing and simulation activities to validate and enhance system performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement GNC algorithms for missile systems.
  2. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on software development and integration efforts.
  3. Execute testing, data collection, and analysis, including hardware-in-the-loop and multi-functional testing.
  4. Utilize Monte Carlo simulations and statistical analysis to validate system performance.
  5. Support and participate in range tests, traveling to remote test sites as necessary.
  6. Work on 6DoF (Six Degrees of Freedom) modeling and simulations for performance validation.
  7. Assist in the development and execution of test plans and reports, presenting data to both large and small audiences.
  8. Ensure the application of best practices and standards in system design and testing.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  2. 20+ years of experience in GNC engineering, specifically in missile or aerospace systems.
  3. Strong proficiency in C++ programming and Linux-based systems.
  4. Experience with 6DoF modeling and simulations.
  5. Expertise in GNC algorithm development, including guidance, navigation, and autopilot algorithms.
  6. Multi-functional testing experience, including hardware-in-the-loop testing.
  7. Proficiency in Monte Carlo simulation and statistical analysis.
  8. Solid understanding of Windows-based platforms, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  9. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical material clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  10. U.S. Citizen, with the ability to obtain required security clearances.
  11. Willingness to travel to remote test sites for field support.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  1. MATLAB proficiency for simulation and analysis.
  2. Experience in soldering and PCB fabrication/rework (IPC standards for surface mount and thru-hole components).
  3. Previous experience with missile systems avionics.
  4. Hardware-in-the-loop experience with missile systems.
  5. Field experience with missile test ranges.
  6. Experience with high-speed interfaces (e.g., PCIe).
  7. LabVIEW programming experience for hardware testing is a plus.
