Job summary

AeroVironment is seeking a Sr. Principal Guidance, Navigation & Control (GNC) Engineer to help architect flight algorithms, lead flight testing, and integrate cutting-edge technologies into unmanned air vehicles and robotic systems.

Role spans GN&C, flight testing, PCB design, software and other projects. This senior position requires a 15+ year track record in aircraft design, GNC, and program management, with travel up to 20%.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years in aircraft design, GN&C, flight testing, systems engineering and program management.
• Experience leading multiple complex aviation systems projects.
• Knowledge of Autopilot hardware/software, Flight control hardware/software, aircraft certification, ground control comms and subsystems.
• Willingness to travel within the continental U.S. up to 20%.

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate engineering resources and ensure alignment with project goals.
• Ensure product designs meet performance, quality, and technical requirements.
• Define system architecture and propagate requirements to design teams.
• Track project technical progress and communicate results.
• Collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional groups to set priorities and strategic plans.
• Oversee design, development and validation of flight control systems for current and new products.
• Lead flight control integration with avionic systems and validation activities.
