Job summary

Becton, Dickinson, and Company (BD) seeks a lead Controls & Automation Engineer to drive electrical and controls innovation across machinery development. You will own the full control system lifecycle, oversee design reviews, verify implementations, and mentor teams across BD’s global network.

The role emphasizes robotics, AI-enabled smart factory initiatives, data integrity, and cybersecurity, with on-site work in Sandy, Utah and up to 25% travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in controls, automation, electrical engineering, or a closely related field.
• 10+ years in industrial automation and machine controls, including PLC/HMI programming, electrical design, motion control, robotics, and systems integration.
• Availability to travel 25% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Define premier solutions by writing automation, controls, and electrical specifications and translating process needs into machine requirements.
• Own architecture and design quality through design reviews and defining hardware, software, networks, and OT data interfaces.
• Guide, build and integrate by following supplier development, documenting progress, and reviewing risks related to safety, cybersecurity, and data integrity.
• Deliver confident acceptance and start-up by validating FAT/SAT, testing, and ramp-up support.
• Improve performance and maintainability with diagnostics, MTTR-friendly design, and continuous improvement.
• Influence the technical roadmap and contribute to Smart Factory, AI, OT infra, cybersecurity and modernization initiatives.
• Build capability across the network by sharing standards and mentoring engineers.
