Job summary

The Smithsonian Libraries and Archives at Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC seeks a Gift Officer to lead major donor fundraising and advance philanthropic support. This permanent, full-time, in-person role reports to the Director and manages a high-value donor portfolio while building strategic development programs across SI.

The position requires strong fundraising expertise, donor relationship management, and collaboration with leadership to achieve annual goals; trust fund employment

Qualifications

• Requires mastery of professional fundraising techniques and understanding of the current philanthropic market.
• Strong oral presentation and written materials skills to engage donors and prospects.
• Ability to develop prospect portfolios and donor strategies to meet fundraising goals.

Responsibilities

• Program Management: secure contributions and steward donors; develop engagement strategies; ensure policy compliance.
• Prospect Management: manage donor activity, expand portfolio, document interactions per guidelines.
• Supervision: lead Advancement staff and ensure equal opportunity practices.
