Job summary

Vistra Frankfurt is seeking a Senior Accountant to lead hands-on German accounting and local compliance. The role reports to the Finance Manager in Budapest and is a maternity-cover, approx. 12 months, remote within Germany.

You will own day-to-day German accounting, VAT, reporting, and liaise with tax authorities and auditors to ensure smooth continuity. As the primary on-ground accounting expert for Germany, you will work with Shared Services and cross-border teams across Europe, maintaining

Qualifications

• Qualified Chartered Accountant or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
• 3+ years in an accounting or financial control role with a focus on German accounting.
• Native or business-fluent German – written and spoken.
• Fluent English – written and spoken.
• Strong knowledge of HGB, German tax law, VAT and local regulatory requirements.
• Experience with or exposure to DATEV, SAP S/4HANA is preferred.

Responsibilities

• German accounting operations under HGB including GL postings, AP/AR, bank & cash.
• Manage VAT returns, corporate tax provisions, and other statutory obligations.
• Support month-end and year-end close with reconciliations and schedules.
• Prepare German statutory financial statements and regulatory filings.
• Liaise with tax advisers, auditors and authorities; support external audits.
