Job summary

CDM Smith is seeking a seasoned Geotechnical/Civil Engineer to lead complex design for excavation, foundations, and geo-environmental projects in the United States. You will review designs for regulatory compliance and mentor junior staff while collaborating with sales on client proposals.

The position requires a PE license, a Bachelor's in a related engineering field, and about 7 years of relevant experience, with travel up to 40% as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Mining or Geologic Engineering or related discipline.
• Professional engineering (PE) license.
• 7 years of related experience.
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
• Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Responsibilities

• Create excavation, dewatering, shallow/deep foundations, dams/reservoirs/levees, geo-environmental projects.
• Engineering designs of basic to high complexity to meet client project requirements.
• Review drafts for compliance with regulations and sign off on completed designs.
• Ensure firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
• Perform site reviews and studies to align designs with location specs.
• Develop technical design documentation and white papers for the firm's TKM.
• Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals in response to RFPs.
• Meet with clients to review design needs and attend conferences to improve visibility of products and services.
• Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff; mentor for growth; may supervise junior engineers.
