Job summary

Alcoa is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead technical support for closure planning and site investigations, ensuring alignment with GISTM and IMS. This role will drive global policy input, risk assessments, and robust cost estimates across active and closed sites.

The candidate will oversee technical reviews, provide guidance for closure activities, and coordinate with locations to optimize O&M programs while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years’ progressive geotechnical engineering experience in industrial/mining/manufacturing environments.
• PE or PG license is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of tailings management standards (ICMM, ANCOLD, MAC/CDA, GISTM).
• Experience in tailings dam closure planning, execution and monitoring.
• Ability to perform geotechnical investigations, slope stability analyses and consolidation modelling.

Responsibilities

• Lead geotechnical contributions to global closure policies, standards, and guidelines.
• Assess closure plans and cost estimates; support gap closure plans.
• Recommend optimized geotechnical designs, construction, and monitoring for closure strategies.
• Conduct risk assessments and readiness reviews for closure execution.
• Coordinate data collection and oversight of IMS/GISTM program compliance.
