SMEUSA in Ohio is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer responsible for business development, preparing projects and reports, and mentoring the team to ensure successful completion. You will identify clients, prepare proposals, and support cross-selling of SME services, while applying geotechnical design and analysis for earth retention, foundations, and related systems.

• Ability to handle physical demands (lifting up to 50 lbs, uneven terrain) and travel.

Responsibilities

• Identify and secure clients and project opportunities, prepare proposals, and negotiate fees and contracts.
• Promote SME services to expand geotechnical offerings to existing and new clients.
• Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications for earth retention, grouting, deep foundations, and reinforced earth systems; perform analyses and write reports.
• Mentor and lead project team members to ensure successful completion of responsibilities.

The Opportunity

A Senior Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for business development, cross-selling SME services, and preparing projects and reports, as well as mentoring and leading team members to successfully complete assigned responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Identifying and securing clients and business/project opportunities both independently and in support of other local, regional and corporate business development activities. Preparing successful proposals, negotiating professional service fees and contracts. Identifying and participating in professional and business organizations and other networking activities that will foster relationships with current clients and potential clients.
• Learning about other SME services to assist in promoting and expanding geotechnical and other SME services to new and existing clients
• Preparing design calculations, drawings and specifications for earth retention, grouting, deep foundation, and reinforced earth systems projects. Completing analytical modeling for geotechnical evaluations. Preparing geotechnical evaluation reports.
• Mentoring and leading project Team Members to successfully complete assigned responsibilities.
  

Requirements

• Has competency using computer operating systems and MS Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills to effectively interact with clients, team members, and supervisors, conveying technical information clearly.
• Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, manage workloads, maintain accurate and detailed record-keeping skills, documenting field observations, safety concerns, and problem resolutions.
• Effective interpersonal skills to build rapport with clients and team members, fostering positive working relationships, customer-centric approach to provide excellent service to clients, ensuring their needs and concerns are addressed promptly and professionally.
• Must be able to understand and adapt to change and react productively to frequent interruptions and changing conditions.
• Basic construction competencies including ability to determine location from surface features and landmarks by interpretation from surveys, road maps, aerial photos, topographic maps, and geologic maps; understanding construction stakes set by others, and color markings of utility companies.
• Has a general aptitude for identifying and resolving complex technical problems in the field, utilizing critical thinking and logical reasoning.
• Demonstrates ethical conduct, maintaining confidentiality and ensuring safety and security in all aspects of work, strict adherence to safety protocols and guidelines, fostering a safe working environment for yourself and others.
• Ability to handle physical demands, such as lifting (up to 50lbs repetitively), walking on uneven ground frequently, and carrying equipment, working in various weather conditions, and traveling to different locations.
