Job summary

Freeport‑McMoRan in Chino, New Mexico, is seeking a Geologist I/II to log core and drill cuttings, supervise contractors, and integrate geological data into coherent maps and plans. The role includes mentoring junior geologists and overseeing resource model development while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Responsibilities cover field logging, data integration, budgeting support, and collaboration with metallurgical teams to evaluate ore types.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geology and five years of experience in geology or a related field required.
• Master's degree in Geology with three years of experience in geology or a related field required.

Responsibilities

• Perform logging of core and RC drill cuttings and peer review logging quality.
• Supervise drilling, road construction and drill sample prep by contractors.
• Integrate geological data into maps and cross sections that align with standards.
• Provide coaching and mentoring to Geologist I and II.
• Supervise a team of geologists in building resource block models that meet standards.
• Maintain knowledge of applicable federal, state and local regulations.
• Advise site management on relevant programs and regulatory practices.
• Prepare and update drill hole databases, maps, and exploration records.
• Collaborate with metallurgists to provide samples for processing tests and ore development.
• Conduct surface and underground geologic mapping and contribute to short-range planning.
• Perform other duties as required.
