Ford Motor Company’s Electric Vehicles, Digital and Design (EVDD) team seeks a Senior Geartrain Design & Analysis Engineer to drive the development of next‑gen drivetrain components. You will own hardware from concept through production, collaborating across sourcing, validation, and ramp stages.

The role emphasizes mechanical design, cross-functional teamwork, hands-on testing, and data-driven optimization in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 7+ years of geartrain hardware design/validation experience.
• Experience with CAE tools (ANSYS, FEMFAT, Romax, GT-Suite, MATLAB).
• Experience with data acquisition in a lab environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize geartrain components for durability, efficiency, NVH, mass, cost, and robustness.
• Generate/update 3D/2D CAD with GD&T and critical characteristics.
• Review DFMEA and process control documentation during hardware design and development.
• Analyze data and correlate predicted vs measured results with test engineers.
• Support/testing setup and data acquisition hardware.
• Collaborate with vendors and manufacturing to ensure on-time delivery.
• Propose design/process improvements and verify effectiveness.
• Contribute to design reviews, test plans, and requirement reviews.
• Maintain comprehensive design/test documentation.

As a Senior Geartrain Design & Analysis Engineer, you will be responsible for design and development of components within Ford’s next generation EV drivetrains. You will work within the drive unit design team developing production hardware. You will own hardware from concept to production with exposure to sourcing, validation, and ramp.

What you'll do

• Design and optimize geartrain components and features such as teeth (setting module, helix angle, microgeometry, etc.), webbing, differential housings, shafts, and bearings for durability, efficiency, NVH, mass, cost, and robustness.
• Generate and update/maintain 3D and 2D CAD of designs, considering best practices for GD&T, clear and consistent notes, identification of critical and significant characteristics, etc.
• Review and update requirements, DFMEA’s, process control plans and other documentation as required during the course of hardware design and development.
• Evaluate data and understand the correlation between predicted and measured results, collaborating with test engineers and reviewing data with subject matter experts.
• Support and/or conduct testing and test setup including data acquisition systems and fixture design (4 square, transmission error, friction loss, NVH).
• Interact with vendors, manufacturing representatives and other industrialization personnel to ensure high quality products arrive where they are needed in time to support the scheduled activities. Travel as required to support this.
• Propose and implement continuous improvements to designs and/or processes. Work closely with appropriate teams to verify the effectiveness of the implementation.
• Contribute to design reviews, test plans, and requirement reviews to further advance the powertrain system cross functionally.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation and reports related to design and test work.

You'll have

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• 7+ years of experience designing, developing, and validating geartrain hardware.
• Experience optimizing geartrain systems utilizing CAE tools such as ANSYS, FEMFAT, Romax, LDP, Kissoft, GT-Suite, MATLAB or equivalent applications.
• Experience with instrumentation and data acquisition in a lab environment.
• Strong sense of ownership, analytical skills and problem-solving skills with a basis in first principles understanding along with the skill set required to effectively communicate.
• An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high performing team.
• A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement.

This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $138,800-$232,700.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
