Job summary

Ford is seeking a Power Electronics Product Design Lead Engineer to head architecture, assembly design, and validation of drive unit inverters from concept to production. You will drive next-gen power electronics architecture, own top-level assemblies, and lead DV tests with manufacturing collaboration.

The role requires a Mechanical Engineering degree and 7+ years of experience in power electronics or related fields, with strong CAD/GD&T skills and leadership abilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 7+ years of experience designing and releasing power electronics or similar products.
• Strong engineering fundamentals and good judgment.

Responsibilities

• Drive power electronics mechanical architecture development, including sizing, layout and trade studies.
• Own top-level assemblies with GD&T and change management.
• Lead mechanical systems engineering activities including FMEA and DV test case generation.
• Collaborate with manufacturing to review controls plans and PV test campaigns.
• Create and execute system and component test/validation plans.
• Develop production system-level test specifications with in-house teams.
• Triage and manage design/build/test issues from prototype to production.
• Lead sustaining engineering from investigation to permanent corrective actions.

In this position...

The Power Electronics Product Design Lead Engineer will be responsible for leading the architecture, assembly design, mechanical systems engineering, and validation of drive unit inverters from concept through production.

What you’ll do

• Drive next-gen power electronics mechanical architecture development including component sizing & selection, mechanical layout, and trade studies.
• Own top-level assemblies including GD&T and change management.
• Lead mechanical systems engineering activities including FMEA, requirements definition, and DV test case generation.
• Work closely with in-house manufacturing teams to review and validate manufacturing controls plans and PV test campaigns.
• Create and execute system and component test / validation plans.
• Work closely with in-house manufacturing teams to create and manage production system-level test specifications.
• Triage and manage product design build and test issues from early prototype through final production verification stages.
• Lead sustaining engineering activities from initial investigation through implementation of permanent corrective actions.

You’ll have

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• 7+ years of experience designing, developing, and releasing products (power electronics or similar devices brought to production preferred)
• Robust foundation in engineering first principles with good engineering judgement.
• Strong 3D CAD (Catia / 3DX preferred), 2D GD&T, tolerance analysis, and assembly management skills.
• Intellectual honesty, curiosity, and humility; a passion for solving deep technical problems; and a drive to deliver engineering excellence.
• Experience leading technical projects; strong written and verbal communication / presentation / story-telling skills.
• Strong problem solving, analysis, and critical thinking skills.

Even better, you may have

• Experience leading design / process FMEAs for electronics and/or automotive systems, writing system requirements, and designing test cases.
• Experience designing / executing design and production verification campaigns.
• Experience troubleshooting / triaging prototype and production build issues.
• Experience managing or working closely with manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, and in-house manufacturing teams to bring parts to production.
• Experience using analysis methods for optimizing and validating structural, thermal, and electrical systems.

This position is a leadership level 6 and ranges from $150,200-$283,500.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
