Job summary

Ford Motor Company’s EVDD team seeks a Senior Geartrain Design & Analysis Engineer to lead the design of next-generation geartrain hardware for electric drivetrains. You will own components from concept through production, collaborating with suppliers and manufacturing to ensure performance, durability and cost targets.

You’ll apply CAE tools (ANSYS, MATLAB, Romax, etc.), run DFMEA reviews, contribute to test plans, and document development activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 7+ years designing, developing, and validating geartrain hardware.
• Experience with CAE tools such as ANSYS, FEMFAT, Romax, LDP, Kissoft, GT-Suite, MATLAB or equivalent.
• Experience with instrumentation and data acquisition in a lab environment.
• Strong sense of ownership, analytical skills and problem-solving skills with a basis in first principles understanding along with the skill set required to effectively communicate.

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize geartrain components and features such as teeth, webbing, differential housings, shafts, and bearings for durability, efficiency, NVH, mass, cost, and robustness.
• Generate and update/maintain 3D and 2D CAD of designs, considering GD&T, notes, and significant characteristics.
• Review and update DFMEA’s and process control plans during hardware design and development.
• Evaluate data and understand correlations between predicted and measured results with test engineers.
• Support testing and test setup including data acquisition systems and fixture design.
• Interact with vendors and manufacturing personnel to ensure timely delivery of high-quality products; travel as required.
• Propose and implement continuous improvements to designs and processes; verify effectiveness.
• Contribute to design reviews, test plans, and requirement reviews to advance powertrain cross-functional work.
• Develop and maintain documentation and reports related to design and test work.
