Job summary

Figure is an AI robotics company based in San Jose, CA, seeking a Senior Gear Design Engineer to own gear and transmission design for humanoid robot hands. You will drive sizing, validation, and ramp to mass production, ensuring compact, durable gear trains for high-DOF hands.

The role requires 7+ years of gear design experience, CATIA and KISSsoft proficiency, and ownership from initial sizing to production. In-office collaboration is required.

Qualifications

• Experience designing gears and geared transmissions end-to-end.
• Proficiency with KISSsoft for rating and micro-geometry optimization.
• CATIA experience for complex geometry and tolerancing in robotics.

Responsibilities

• Own gear design end-to-end: sizing, geometry, life analysis, prototyping, and ramp to mass production.
• Perform gear sizing, contact/bending stress analysis, and micro-geometry optimization in KISSsoft.
• Design gears, shafts, and transmission assemblies in CATIA for high-DOF robotic hands.
• Define gear manufacturing strategy and drive DFM with suppliers from first articles to high-volume production.
• Generate accurate 2D drawings with GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and plan inspection/metrology.
• Build and run test rigs to characterize efficiency, backlash, wear, and fatigue life.
• Collaborate with actuator, structures, EE, and manufacturing teams to identify risks and unblock the program.
