Job summary

Level Infinite, Tencent’s global gaming brand, seeks a Senior Games User Researcher in Los Angeles to strengthen the LA Checkpoint lab and collaborate with London teams. You will lead end-to-end research across multiple games, build stakeholder relationships, and mentor junior researchers while ensuring in-person lab operations remain smooth.

The role requires hands-on experience in games UX research, strong communication, and the ability to work across time zones.

Qualifications

• Hands-on user research in the entertainment field, preferably games.
• Experience delivering research in-person in LA is preferred.
• Strong ability to tell actionable insights to stakeholders.
• Background in HCI, psychology, or sociology with qualitative focus.

What the Role Entails

Tencent is looking for an experienced Senior Games User Researcher in LA to join Checkpoint, an established team to make better games and elevate user research in its second party games studios. As well as leading research initiatives across several games you will nurture stakeholder relationships, run operations for the UXR lab in LA, and contribute to elevating the team’s overall research practice; while remaining connected with the majority of the team based in London, UK. Joining Tencent Games, you will work alongside award winning studios, making some of the most popular games in the world. Your mission will be to support these studios to deliver on their intended experience by providing timely insights from members of their target audience. This is a great opportunity to work across many genres, strengthen our LA function, and help us achieve greater impact across the organisation. Please note that this opportunity requires you to be in our Playa Vista office full time. Most of our research is conducted in person, in a dedicated lab.

What You Will Be Doing

Build relationships across the organizations to drive relevant and impactful research.

Work with studios and external producers to establish their titles’ research strategy.

Partner with our Consumer Insights team to form a comprehensive view of the games and provide holistic insights.

Deliver research end-to-end, from goals setting to report delivery using whatever method you see fit, on PC and mobile titles.

Mentor and develop our Junior Researcher in LA.

Maintain our LA operations, making sure everything is in place to run research at pace.

Engage with the rest of the Checkpoint user research team to maintain a common culture and ways of working.

Who We Look For

You have several years of hand-on experience delivering user research projects in the entertainment field, preferably in video games (PC, console, and mobile), preferably in-person in LA.

Self-starter and independent, we can rely on you even if your team is on the other side of the world; yet keen to remain culturally connected with the rest of the team.

You are a keen gamer, up to date with a variety of genres and business models.

Good communicator, you can express complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing.

You are passionate about games user research and helping teams build the best possible experience for their audience.

You probably studied human-computer interaction, psychology, sociology or a field with a relevant focus on qualitative research.

You have experience working with analytics, telemetry, quantitative, and survey data.

Salary

The expected base pay range for this position in the location(s) listed above is $127,100.00 to $297,000.00 per year. Actual pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

• Employees hired for this position may be eligible for a sign on payment, relocation package, and restricted stock units, which will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

• The Employee is also eligible for up to 15 to 25 days of vacation per year (depending on the employee’s tenure), up to 13 days of holidays throughout the calendar year, and up to 10 days of paid sick leave per year.
