Job summary

Eastman is seeking a Functional Safety Engineer to design safety interlocks and evaluate Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) to protect personnel in process operations.

You will translate PHA/LOPA findings into effective SIFs, IPLs, and LI PLs while ensuring independence of safety functions and compliance with IEC 61511/61508. Collaboration with process, electrical, and controls teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or Electrical Engineering is required.
• 7–10 years of experience in safety interlock design or related functional safety engineering.
• Certifications in Functional Safety are required or equivalent as approved by the company.

Responsibilities

• Design safety interlocks (SIFs, IPLs, LI PLs) based on PHAs and LOPAs.
• Evaluate hazards and determine safeguards to reduce risk.
• Develop Safety Requirement Specifications and IEC 61511/61508 compliance.
• Perform PFDavg and PST calculations; support SIL determinations.
• Interpret P&IDs and electrical diagrams to reflect protection strategy.
• Apply DCS/PLC/SIS concepts to safety solutions.
• Develop proof-testing procedures and improve testing practices.
