Job summary

Bluesky is hiring a senior engineer for the Atmosphere team to help build the open network behind AT Protocol. You will contribute to products, documentation, and developer tools that extend Bluesky far beyond the app.

The role focuses on developer tooling, API services, and production backend operations with an emphasis on auth and identity management. This is a fully remote position with some travel and PST overlap expectations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of expert level experience with TypeScript, Node.js, React and the Web platform.
• Strong UI/UX sensibility and experience with user-focused product teams.
• Experience operating production backend services and auth technologies (OAuth/JWTs).
• Comfort building developer tooling and API services for an open network.

Bluesky's mission is to transition the social web from platforms to protocols. We're building a social network where users have more power. Our team has decades of combined experience building distributed applications. As an engineer on the Atmosphere team, you'll work on software that makes the open network behind Bluesky and the broader developer ecosystem tick.

You will contribute to products, documentation, and developer tools that extend the reach of Bluesky well beyond our app, and into a vibrant open network of motivated builders. The Network Services team is responsible for promoting long-term success of AT Protocol, making it approachable for both developers and end users. The ideal candidate loves working on developer tooling and API services, but also crafting delighful experiences on the Web.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to products, documentation, and developer tools that extend Bluesky's reach into the open network.
• Support the long-term success of AT Protocol by making it approachable for developers and end users.
• Build delightful user experiences supporting auth, identity management, developer documentation, and more.
• Build and maintain API services that power a vibrant ecosystem of third-party builders.
• Maintain production hosting and identity services.
• Maintain our open source SDKs and service distributions.

You might be a good fit if you:

• 5+ years of expert level expertise in TypeScript, Node.js, React, and the Web platform.
• Bring UI/UX expertise informed by working on user-focused product teams.
• Enjoy working on backend web services, and have been responsible for operating them in production.
• Are familiar with various auth technologies of the Web such as OAuth, JWTs, public-key cryptography, and the Web security model.
• Like working on small, fast-moving teams.
• Have read the AT Protocol docs and want to contribute.

We're especially excited if you have:

• Been building with AT Protocol.
• Experience with Go at scale.
• Expertise in auth and identity management.
• More extensive experience operating production services (e.g. Linux, sysadmin skills, DevOps, etc.).

We're a fully remote team, but an overlap of working hours with PST is required, as is willingness to travel to team meetups once every 3-4 months. Please note, there may be an on-site component to these interviews. We offer health, dental, and vision insurance.

Additional Notes

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $200,000 - $270,000 USD, excluding equity. Equity will be considered in the total compensation package. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual's geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.
