Job summary

The Washington Post is seeking a Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer to own and expand newsletter and content delivery across Iterable and Arc. You will build audience journeys, reusable templates, and data integrations, while collaborating with editorial, product, and marketing teams to deliver targeted experiences.

Join a small, high-collaboration Content Delivery team focused on reliability, observability, and scalable systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering or related field, or equivalent.
• 8+ years in tech, 6+ years in software development.
• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and React.
• Designing REST/JSON APIs and data handling.
• Backend services with Node.js or similar.
• Lead complex features end-to-end.
• Maintainable, tested, and well-documented code.
• Strong analytical and debugging skills.
• Experience with automated testing, monitoring, and production support.
• Mentor engineers and code reviews.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of newsletter and content-delivery capabilities within Iterable.
• Design campaigns, journeys, personalization features, and audience workflows.
• Develop reusable newsletter templates and Handlebars components.
• Build integrations between Iterable, Arc, newsroom systems, data feeds, and APIs.
• Collaborate with editorial, product, Marketing, Subscriptions, and engineering teams.
• Mentor engineers and drive technical standards across the team.
