Job summary

Flock Freight is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack, to join Product Engineering. You will design, build, and maintain web/mobile interfaces using Java, React, and TypeScript, while crafting scalable APIs with RESTful and gRPC.

You will mentor juniors, help shape architecture, and own features end-to-end in a hybrid work setup based in the San Diego/Encinitas area. The role requires 3–6 years of industry experience in production web apps, strong Java/Spring Boot, SQL knowledge, and

Qualifications

• 3–6 years of professional software eng experience building production web apps.
• Strong experience with Java for back-end development, familiarity with Spring Boot.
• Solid understanding of data modeling, relational databases and SQL.
• Experience with Git, IDEs, and build/deploy tools (Gradle, Docker, CI/CD).
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code).
• Experience supporting production systems, including debugging and performance optimization.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and maintain web applications using Java, React, and TypeScript.
• Develop APIs using RESTful and gRPC for high performance and scalability.
• Own features beyond initial release including monitoring and production improvements.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to implement features.
• Write clean, documented, maintainable code using modern frameworks.
• Debug and troubleshoot across the full stack, including production support.
• Contribute to evolving system architecture for scalability and maintainability.
• Utilize SQL and relational DB tools to manage application state.
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
