Job summary

Symmetry is building the platform that unifies AI workflows by powering context, continuity, and observability across your AI stack. You’ll own the systems behind the Intelligence Layer, designing APIs, data stores, and production services that are fast, secure, and scalable.

Collaborating with product, design, and research, you’ll translate complex ideas into reliable, user-centric backend solutions that enable teams to ship faster while maintaining trust in AI-driven work.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building and operating backend or full-stack systems in production environments.
• Strong Python fundamentals and experience with modern web frameworks.
• Deep understanding of data modeling and SQL with hands-on experience in relational databases.
• Experience designing distributed and asynchronous systems for scale and reliability.
• Understanding of vector or graph data models and their role in search, retrieval, or knowledge systems.
• Solid foundation in cloud-native operations — containerization, orchestration, monitoring, and scaling.
• Track record of owning systems end-to-end — from design to post-launch operation.
• Awareness of security best practices and compliance principles.
• Strong debugging, observability, and incident-management skills.
• Clear, proactive communicator comfortable working with product and research partners.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain APIs powering Symmetry's product and external integrations.
• Architect data systems: relational, vector, and graph stores.
• Build distributed services using Python and async patterns.
• Integrate AI workflows with retrieval and generation pipelines.
• Ensure reliability and security, with access control and data protection.
• Operate in production: deploy, monitor, and optimize with metrics.
• Debug and optimize end-to-end, improving performance and resilience.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with frontend, design, and research.
• Own outcomes: document systems, write tests, iterate post-launch.
