Job summary

Fidelity Investments Inc. is seeking an Authorization Engineer to join the globally distributed Authorization Team within Shared Services Engineering. You will design and implement RBAC/JWT/OAuth 2.0 based access controls for core brokerage platforms, and operate highly distributed systems in AWS with strong automation and observability.

The role emphasizes collaboration across teams, on-call incident handling, and continuous improvement of security patterns in production environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technology related field required.
• 5+ years hybrid experience in Production Support, Development and SRE.
• 2+ years AWS cloud development experience.
• 2–4 years Java or Go with SDLC and automation focus.
• Strong RBAC, ReBAC, JWT-based authorization and OAuth 2.0 knowledge.
• Ability to automate with Python or Shell scripting.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps concepts.
• Hands-on Kubernetes experience 2–4 years.
• Experience with observability tools for distributed systems.

The Team
The Authorization Team within the Shared Services Engineering organization is a dynamic, globally distributed group that owns a critical application responsible for performing data and functional authorization checks across the majority of Fidelity’s core brokerage platforms. The team designs and implements security patterns to protect customer data, and manages and supports authorization services in production environments
The Skills You Bring

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technology related field (like Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology) required, master’s degree is a plus
• A minimum of 5 years of hybrid experience in Production Support, Development and SRE Experience. Hands-On experience deploying and/or supporting highly distributed multi-tiered systems at scale
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in cloud development (AWS); Experience with designing, building and operating highly resilient platforms in AWS Cloud Environments
• 2 – 4 years of experience in software development with Java or Go with a focus on SDLC and automation
• Strong understanding of modern authorization architectures, including RBAC, ReBAC, JWT-based authorization, and OAuth 2.0, with hands-on experience designing and implementing secure, scalable access control solutions for distributed applications.
• A self-starter and team player who can independently manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment
• Strong hands-on experience and ability to automate with various scripting languages such as Python, Shell Scripting, etc
• Solid understanding of Cloud Computing and DevOps concepts including CI/CD Pipelines
• 2 – 4 years of Hands-On Kubernetes skills and knowledge including support and app deployment experience
• Expert and hands on experience with one or more Observability tools (OpenSearch, Open Telemetry, Datadog, Splunk)
• Experienced in Instrumentation with systems skills on building and operating, monitoring, logging, alerting services of distributed systems at scale
• Proven experience in maintaining scalability and resiliency in complex environments Proven experience in implementing advanced observability practices and techniques at scale
• Ability to triage, perform root cause analysis, and be decisive under pressure
• Experience managing and interpreting large datasets using query languages and visualization tools
• Excellent verbal, written communication skills and ability to tailor them to various audiences
• Ability and high-level curiosity enabling the desire to learn new technologies, tools and bring them to our developers
• Ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups, both in person and virtually, in a constructive and collaborative manner to build and maintain effective relationships
• Familiarity with Agile Software Development Methodologies
• Highly effective business communication and influencing skills
• AWS and AWS / EKS certifications are a plus
  

Fidelity’s Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.
