Job description

The crushing weight of debt is something that we believe holds people back from reaching their dreams and making a splash in the world. So in 2013, after seeing our friends and family struggle with student loans, we created Splash Financial.

Over the years, our mission has expanded to include helping people with other forms of debt - such as refinancing credit cards, which are at all time highs in the US. And we’ve been able to refinance $6+ Billion in loans through our network of Splash, powered credit union and bank partners who leverage our marketplace and automated loan processing technology. And we’ve raised over $135 million from investors like partners of DST Global, Citi Ventures, TruStage Ventures, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures, Detroit Venture Partners, and more.

But at our core, we’re still that little company from Cleveland with a big dream: to make people more powerful than their debt and we’re just getting started..

ABOUT OUR WORKPLACE:

Splash is remote-first, and proud of it — though our collections team works in-person at our Arizona location.

We spend our days simplifying financial products and getting them into the hands of people who need them most. Right now, we’re focused on building financial technologies that fundamentally transform how the industry lends.

Although Splash has been around since 2013, we still operate like a startup — fast-paced, nimble, and full of heart. We’re good people who care deeply about doing meaningful work and we approach challenges with creativity, passion, and urgency.

And to hire the best, we provide the best: great health insurance, competitive salaries, and unique benefits like quarterly meet-ups and access to engagement tools that keep us connected — even from afar.

At Splash, everything we do is guided by our values:

Own It – We take full accountability and follow through on commitments.

Raise the Bar – We move fast, innovate faster, and push through barriers.

Say the Hard Thing – We speak up with honesty, respect, and a desire to solve problems and make things better.

Elevate Each Other – We win as a team by lifting each other up.

These values show up in how we work and how we connect — whether we’re collaborating on big projects or bonding over everyday moments. Yes, we even have Slack channels for #kids-and-pets and #food because we believe being human makes us better teammates.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Splash Financial is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer with command over the React library and a deep understanding of design and software engineering principles.

The ideal candidate brings tenacity to their work, proactively takes ownership over deliverables, is reflective and frequently thinking of ways they and their team can improve, sets a high technical bar when it comes to code quality and testing, troubleshoots issues methodically using a variety of observability tools at their disposal, writes thoughtful designs and documentation, holds themselves and others accountable, and gives thoughtful feedback to others while exercising compassionate candor. This candidate also must have a constructive spirit and collaborate well with others. We value directness and candor at Splash, and we want you to speak your mind and make a big impact, but don’t tolerate unconstructive negativity… we are solution builders here and culture is critical!

You'll join our HELOC (home equity line of credit) team at a pivotal moment. The frontend is already built, and the next six months are about maturing and scaling it fast: launching in-house underwriting and significantly growing both borrower volume and lending capital. This is a senior frontend role with genuine full stack reach. Rather than owning isolated React components, you'll work across the full application, digging into the backend, understanding how the system actually behaves, and making informed decisions that shape real borrower flows and funnels.

Day to day, you'll partner with your team, cross-functional stakeholders, and Product & Engineering leadership to turn ambiguity into clear direction. You'll review PRDs to catch missing requirements, work with UI/UX designers on what's feasible to build, and collaborate closely with backend engineers on implementation. Much of the work is refactoring and enhancing an existing foundation, so you'll have real influence over how the product evolves and hardens as it scales, while delivering high-quality, resilient solutions that directly drive growth.

Come join a team that values growth, flexibility, and determination! Mentor others and get mentored! Ideate new projects, take ownership, and execute!

WHAT YOU’LL DO AT SPLASH:

  • Develop and enhance our React and NextJS website, building new features, optimizing existing functionality, and ensuring high performance.
  • Partner with backend engineers working in PHP and Clojure to design cohesive end-to-end features, ensuring smooth integration between frontend components and backend services.
  • Lead projects of varying complexity, driving them from inception to delivery, collaborating closely with Product Managers and fellow engineers.
  • Write technical design documents, creating clear and maintainable specifications for your projects.
  • Take ownership of creating and managing Jira cards, driving clarity and accountability for tasks and deliverables.
  • Design, execute, and monitor A/B tests (experiments) using feature flags, evaluating their impact on user behavior and business metrics.
  • Implement and maintain observability for the platform, creating alerts, monitors, and dashboards for proactive monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to maintaining production stability, investigating and fixing bugs, and providing support to ensure a smooth user experience.
  • Work fully remote, communicating and participating actively in our highly collaborative culture

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO SPLASH:

  • Experience: At least 10+ years of software development experience with:
  • More than 5 years recent working with React
  • More than 3 years working in a true full stack or backend-intensive environment
  • Performance Optimization: Proficient with profiling and optimizing React applications for high performance

  • CI/CD: Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment strategies
  • Observability: Familiarity with logging, monitoring and alerting, dashboards, and metrics
  • Collaboration: Comfortable communicating and collaborating with Product Managers, Designers, and Frontend + Backend Engineers
  • Growth Mindset: Strong desire to keep growing and take on new challenges
  • High Engagement: High level of motivation and engagement, showing strong commitment to both individual and team success

Bonus Attributes (Preferred but Not Required):

  • Leadership Experience: Experience leading teams or overseeing significant projects
  • Next.js Expertise: Proficiency with Next.js, including server-side rendering (SSR), static site generation (SSG), API routes, and dynamic routing.

OUR TECH STACK:

  • Frontend: React, Next.js, ClojureScript
  • Backend: Clojure, Node.js (optional), other functional or JVM-based languages
  • Architecture: service oriented, event-driven systems
  • Infrastructure: AWS, Kubernetes ,serverless architecture, CI/CD pipelines

COMPENSATION:

This role may also be eligible for a bonus component tied to individual and company performance. Final compensation will be determined by factors such as location, experience, and skill level.
