Job description

At Lyft, our purpose is to serve and connect. To do this, we start with our own community by creating an open, inclusive, and diverse organization

As a Senior Frontend Engineer, you will be responsible for the sound technical execution of web projects for the Map Tooling team. This team is building and maintaining Scope, our geo-visualization platform, along with curation tools that support our Mapping team and external partners like Marketplace, Customer Care & Support, and Finance.

These projects will require close collaboration with our product managers, product designers, data scientists, and other engineering teams. You’ll be executing multiple exciting projects at once, so being able to juggle these initiatives is key. We’re also counting on you to be a champion for best frontend practices, guiding engineers, designers, and management along the way.

Please note that this role also includes participation in on-call rotations to ensure the platform’s stability and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership and direction for projects, helping define the team’s roadmap, architecture, processes, and best practices.
  • Write well-crafted, well-tested, readable, maintainable code. Leave the code in a better state than when you found it (progressive refactoring).
  • Perform thoughtful code reviews for colleagues to ensure code quality and distribute knowledge.
  • Unblock, support and effectively communicate cross functionally in order to achieve results.
  • Evangelize appropriate tech and engineering best practices, and occasionally give internal or external tech talks.
  • Participate in hiring activities: take part in technical interviews, live coding, share detailed feedback to hiring best technical talent in the function.
  • Act as a mentor to other developers on the team.
Experience:
  • Must have 5+ years of software engineering industry experience.
  • Experience in technical leadership, guiding engineering teams in architecture, best practices, and complex problem-solving.
  • Advanced knowledge of JavaScript, CSS, and HTML.
  • Experience working with React / Next.js.
  • Experience working with NodeJS and Express applications
  • Experience working with design systems (e.g. Bootstrap, Salesforce Lightning, GitHub Primer).
  • Experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Product and Design.
  • Good understanding of web performance and how browsers and DOM work.
  • Experience with SQL is a big plus.
Benefits:
  • Professional and stable working environment.
  • The latest technology and equipment you need.
  • Potential to work remotely, including out of country (dependent on work authorizations).
  • 28 calendar days for vacation and up to 5 paid sick days.
  • 18 weeks of paid parental leave. Biological, adoptive and foster parents are all eligible.
  • Mental health benefits.
  • Family building benefits.
