Job summary

VIAVI Solutions is seeking an experienced FPGA design engineer to join our product development team in the United States. You will design and implement FPGA solutions, write Verilog/VHDL, and tackle complex digital logic for high-speed interfaces.

You will collaborate with software, firmware, and system engineers to integrate FPGA designs, perform simulations, and contribute to design reviews. A strong background in UVM, timing closure, and lab debugging is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of FPGA design and development for commercial products.
  • Expertise in VHDL and/or Verilog for complex digital design.
  • Strong proficiency with FPGA tools such as Vivado or Quartus.
  • Experience with simulation/verification methodologies (UVM, SystemVerilog).

Responsibilities

  • Design and implementation of FPGA solutions for new product development.
  • Develop Verilog/SystemVerilog code for high-speed interfaces and control logic.
  • Perform simulation, synthesis, and place & route for FPGAs.
  • Create test benches and verification methodologies for FPGA designs.
  • Collaborate with software/firmware engineers to integrate FPGA designs.

Summary

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design and implementation of FPGA solutions for new product development.
  • Develop Verilog/System Verilog code for complex digital logic, including high-speed interfaces and control functions.
  • Perform comprehensive simulation, synthesis, and place & route for FPGAs (e.g., AMD/Altera).
  • Design and implement test benches and verification methodologies for FPGA designs.
  • Collaborate with software, firmware, and system engineers to integrate FPGA designs into larger system architectures.
  • Conduct hardware debugging and validation.
  • Generate detailed design documentation, including specifications, block diagrams, and test plans.
  • Participate in design reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring adherence to design standards.
  • Stay abreast of new FPGA technologies, tools, and industry trends to recommend improvements and innovations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the overall technical growth of the team.
Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in FPGA design and development for commercial products.
  • Expertise in VHDL and/or Verilog for complex digital design.
  • Strong proficiency with FPGA development tools (e.g., AMD Vivado, Intel Quartus Prime).
  • Extensive experience with simulation and verification methodologies (e.g., UVM, SystemVerilog is a plus).
  • Solid understanding of high-speed digital design principles, signal integrity, and timing closure.
  • Experience with various communication protocols (e.g., PCIe, Ethernet, DDR, SPI, I2C).
  • Proficiency in using lab equipment for hardware debug and validation.
  • Familiarity with embedded processors (e.g., ARM, MicroBlaze, Nios II) within FPGAs is highly desirable.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Tcl) for automation.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Job Posting Pay Range

90,846 to 168,714
