Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Senior Digital Firmware Design Engineer in St. Petersburg, FL to design, integrate, test, and optimize ruggedized hardware for defense applications.

The role requires deep FPGA-based digital design expertise, integrating hardware and firmware across embedded systems, and supporting the full product lifecycle from requirements to production. A Secret/Top Secret clearance is preferred, with US citizenship required.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 6+ years of experience in embedded hardware and digital design (8+ preferred for Senior level).
• Experience across full product lifecycle: requirements, design, integration, testing, production.

Responsibilities

• Participate in a multi-disciplinary engineering team developing secure, high-performance military hardware and firmware.
• Analyze system requirements and decompose into detailed hardware design specs with traceability.
• Perform logic design; write VHDL, synthesize, simulate testbenches, and debug designs in FPGA/CPLD devices.
• Architect and test embedded firmware/software within FPGA-based designs incl. signal processing and high-speed interfaces.
• Troubleshoot hardware, firmware, and integration issues from prototype to production.
• Support design reviews, documentation, and configuration management; provide input for cost, schedule, risk.
