Job summary

Merck & Co. is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Scientist to develop and train large-scale Foundation Models on biological data, advancing target and biomarker discovery.

You will work with a cross-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and domain experts, leveraging state-of-the-art GPUs and novel ML approaches to push the boundaries of translational science. Applicants should hold a PhD in a STEM field and demonstrate expertise in transformer models, PyTorch, and large-scale

Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science or related STEM field.
• Strong expertise in modern AI/ML approaches and transformer-based foundation models.
• Experience pre-training large-scale and/or multi-modal foundation models on multiple GPUs.
• Proficiency in Python and PyTorch.
• Interest in life sciences problems and ability to collaborate across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional team to identify research questions, data requirements, and develop modern AI/ML solutions.
• Design and develop, train, and implement transformer-based Foundation Models for Target and Biomarker discovery using large-scale biological data.
• Stay up to date with AI/ML advances and apply relevant methods to improve existing models.
• Publish research findings in conferences and journals and contribute to the scientific community.
