Job summary

Cloudflare is seeking a senior software engineer in Austin to serve as a hands-on technical build partner for strategic customers. You will drive engagements from idea to launch, shape scalable architectures on Cloudflare, and guide customer design decisions.

You will prototype alongside customer teams, review code for quality and security, and produce reference implementations and guidance across Workers, KV, R2, D1, and other services.

Qualifications

7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
Track record of delivering production-grade systems.
Experience owning mission-critical services with real-world users.
Understanding of on-call rotations, incident response, and architectural rigor for five nines uptime.
Current hands-on development experience and a ship-first mentality.

Responsibilities

Act as the hands-on technical build partner across a portfolio of strategic customers building on the Cloudflare platform, driving engagements from idea to launch.
Shape scalable, resilient architectures on Cloudflare and guide customer design decisions.

Diagnose and resolve technical problems across the stack.
Write reference code, samples, and technical guidance.

Join design reviews, planning sessions, and technical working sessions.
Surface customer edge cases, friction, and product gaps to Product and Engineering teams.
Maintain trusted technical relationships with customer engineers and technical leaders.
Identify opportunities to accelerate adoption of Cloudflare services.

Requirements

7+ years of professional software engineering experience
Track record of delivering production-grade systems
Experience owning mission-critical services with real-world users
Understanding of on-call rotations, incident response, and architectural rigor for five nines uptime
Current hands-on development experience and a ship-first mentality
Broad technical fluency across frontend performance, backend logic, database optimization, and distributed infrastructure
Experience integrating AI-augmented workflows such as Windsurf or OpenCode into daily development
Ability to decompose complex business requirements into scalable, resilient technical architectures
Deep experience with at least one major cloud provider: AWS, GCP, or Azure
Understanding of serverless, networking, and security primitives
Ability to engage in high-stakes technical and strategic discussions with VP-level stakeholders
Ability to translate complex engineering trade-offs into business impact
Experience building on Cloudflare Workers or the broader Cloudflare Developer Platform is a bonus
Fast-paced startup or customer-facing engineering experience is a bonus
Open-source contributions, technical blogging, or industry conference speaking is a bonus
Authorization to receive software or technology controlled under U.S. export laws without sponsorship for an export license may be required
