Job summary

Steigerwaldt Land Services, Inc. is seeking a Senior Forester to lead field operations in the Lake States region, based in Tomahawk, WI or Hayward, WI. The role focuses on timber sale planning, boundary delineation, GIS data collection, and silvicultural planning.

Ideal candidates have a forestry BS, 10+ years in the field, strong communication skills, and willingness to travel for projects. Remote-friendly hybrid work model applies; safety and quality drive decisions.

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry or related Forest Sciences.
• 10+ years of professional forestry experience or a related role.
• Ability to work independently in varied settings, both in the field and with clients and other professionals.
• Superior written and oral communication skills.
• Competent with Microsoft Office software.
• Experience with GPS data collecting and processing.
• Experience with ESRI GIS software and GIS mapping and data collection principles.
• Ability to travel and conduct overnight work away from the office - travel up to 25-40 percent or more.
• Current valid driver's license with personal vehicle suitable for forestry work (mileage is reimbursed).
• ATV and snowmobile certifications.
• A team player who is confident, respectful, curious, flexible, and able to work with other professionals in a growing, successful, and respected business.

Responsibilities

• Timber sale marking, setup, marketing, and administration following site-specific prescriptions on all timber types.
• Harvest boundary research and delineation.
• GPS-enabled timber sale establishment and plot location collection.
• Stand reconnaissance and silvicultural planning.
• Forest management plan writing.
• Reforestation supervision and administration.
• Inventory data collection with required speed and accuracy.
• Detailed tree data recording of field observations.
• Periodic travel on project may exceed ±50 percent (in and out of state).
• Other duties as assigned.
