Job summary

Whitley Penn, a prominent audit, tax, and advisory firm, seeks an Associate Director for Forensic & Litigation Services in Houston. The role focuses on directing client assignments in commercial & IP disputes, guiding a team, and delivering expert work with supporting documents.

You will manage complex damages calculations, coordinate with attorneys and clients, and oversee training and development within the department.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or economics; advanced degree in a related field a plus
• A CPA license is preferred and/or other suitable professional credentials or designations as needed
• 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting and/or finance culminating into a leadership role including management experience
• Broad background and knowledge in litigation/expert services and the calculation of damages in different types of matters is required
• Proficiency in use of technology and accounting programs including MS Office
• Ability to manage and lead teams
• Ethics and compliance

Responsibilities

• Calculate economic damages in matters including patent, trademark, copyright, trade secrets, breach of contract, business valuation, solvency, fraud, business interruption, personal injury, wrongful death, and wrongful termination
• Review and analyze documents; highlight relevant documents and testimony to team members; ensure documents reviewed
• Manage projects by setting internal objectives, delegating assignments, and ensuring timely completion
• Identify issues and communicate with leadership on case direction; make strategic recommendations with strong analytic skills
• Deliver complete reports to Managing Directors and Partners with supporting documents
• Prepare testifying expert for depositions and trials; organize files for quick review
• Work with testifying expert to develop testimony outlines and demonstratives for trial
• Review staff work and provide feedback; ensure timely completion
• Review formatting of schedules; ensure accuracy of financial information
• Attend client meetings with Partners/Directors to determine scope and expectations
• Lead departmental training and foster continuous improvement; organize in-house training
• Assist in recruiting and developing training material; act as instructor in professional development programs
